'You know I would never hurt you.' Michael strokes my head as I lay on the bed next to him. I wish I knew that. I love him. I have to take the chance. I think of Isabella back at home, safe in her own bed. I wonder if she's taken a pregnancy test yet or if she's told her parents. I smile at Michael. I'm glad I'm with him.

I must have drifted off because when I wake up it is dark and I am alone. I can hear voices coming from the lounge, urgent, desperate voices.

'Leave her alone.' Michael's voice sounds pleading.

'We had a deal.' Stuart. I should have known it was him.

'I know, I know but I love her.' Stuart laughs a horrible evil mocking laugh.

'Love? You don't even know what love is. Listen Michael you have until tomorrow evening to do the right thing or the deal is off.'

The whole apartment shakes at the sound of the front door slamming. A glimmer of light seeps through a crack in the door as Michael slowly pushes it open. He sighs and sits on the end of the bed. I dare not breathe let alone move.

'Are you awake?' he whispers.

I consider staying silent but I can't. 'Yes'.

'We need to get out of here.'

'And go where?'

'Do you trust me?'

After everything that has happened I shouldn't, but I do.

'Yes.'

'Get some more rest. We have a long journey today.'

Of course I can't sleep anymore. I wonder where we are going. I'm scared. I don't know if I want to move further away. Running away is one thing but this seems a step too far.

As soon as I am up, Michael is hurrying me along. He seems anxious. I’m full of mixed emotions at the memories I’ve had in his apartment. It feels right though, to get out of here, a fresh start.

We travel for almost an hour before I see the sign that welcomes us to Suffolk. Endless fields surround us and roads narrow into country lanes. The sun is beginning to go down but you can still make out the features of the cottage as we arrive. It couldn’t be any more different than his apartment. It has charm oozing out of the thatched roof. The pink exterior walls delight me. So romantic, it could be in a Jane Austen novel. There is barely another house in sight. The road is empty, the kind that doesn’t have a street light and will be completely dark at night.

‘Here we are,’ Michael announces.

I am filled with hope. Together we can build a new life here away from those nasty men. He kisses me as he unlocks the front door. I feel as if I am stepping into my dream home, cosy and full of character.

‘I’m sorry for everything.’

I smile in response and stroke his hair. He has already been forgiven.

The lounge even has a log fire in it, perfect. I imagine us cuddling up on the sofa. I flop happily down onto it with a massive grin on my face, it is so soft you could sink right into it and not ever get up.
